Dear Marc,

During the past three months our agency offered a weekly support group to cancer patience utilizing your audiotape series “Life Skills: A Patient’s role in Healing.” Those individuals who were able to remain in the group for the 1 week duration reported their experience to be very valuable. One participant wrote and thanked me. “…I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t found you and the Life Skills program. I felt like I was groping for help. I will encourage others to join the program.”

We are looking forward to beginning the series again this month. Hopefully it will be even better now that we’ve been through it once.

As vice President and Conference Planning Committee Chairperson for CANSA Cancer Agencies National Staff (Association) I would like to invite you to be a presenter as our national meeting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 26 & 27 this year. The group, representing United way affiliated cancer organizations across the country, supports agency staff people who assist cancer patients with a variety of non-medical needs—emotional, physical, information, financial, etc.,  all vitally important to their well being and quality of life.

I feel your program provides a very useful format for cancer patient support groups to follow. We would begin each 14 hour weekly session with an open sharing time which allowed those who wished a chance to describe events and feelings from the past week. Then the facilitator would relate the discussion to the audiotape topic for the day. After listening to the tape we would conclude with personal reflections on our responses to the mental exercises.

I am very supportive of your program and plan to recommend it to another national group I’m affiliated with, the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. They meet annually in November and are always looking for meaningful presentations for the growing population they serve—cancer survivors.

Thank you for coming to our November 26 session and offering your insights. We are indeed fortunate to have found out about this extraordinary project you created based on your own health-challenging experience. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,

Susan B, Dusseau, M.A.,
Executive Director.
